WIKI...

Chapter 6 of our textbook pointed out that teachers can make good use of their classroom computers by having students use them to write book reports. I wanted to include this idea in my wikispace, but I needed a way to make it collaborative so that all students can add to all pages. I thought an author study might be a fun way to do this. The writing on mine is a little thin, but the idea is that students can add many titles to the list of Cynthia Rylant's books and write full reviews of them. Students can also practice writing a biography by fleshing out the About Cynthia Rylant section. I had a much easier time make this wikispace than making the voicethread or the webquest because the tutorial was so clear.

Because I teach fourth grade, I am with the same group of students all day, so if I used wikispace in my classroom, each page would be shared among 25 students. Ideally, I would want to make a few wikispaces, each with a different topic (such as states of matter or explorers) and let students do the research and add the images and facts. I would definitely want to make each page available for all 25 students to edit because I can see how much they would benefit from all collaborating to learn and share about the same subject.
